Meeting Format
Hello and welcome to the regular meeting of the Secular Beginner’s Group Meeting of AA. My name is ________.
(Read or screen share and have someone read) the AA Preamble.
This is a secular meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous. Our primary purpose is to achieve and maintain our sobriety, and to help each other to do so. We are open to all who seek sobriety, regardless of their particular religious or spiritual beliefs, or lack thereof.
We discourage proselytizing of personal beliefs about religion, atheism, spirituality, or politics. We share our difficulties staying sober and the solutions we and others have found.
This is an open meeting. This means that anyone can attend.
Note that our main focus in this meeting is sobriety from alcohol, but if other addictions are also part of your story, we generally welcome discussion of anything affecting your sobriety as a whole.
Is anyone celebrating any length of time in sobriety who wishes to be recognized? A day, a week, a month, multiples of months or years?
We begin the meeting with check-ins, and hope you’ll take this opportunity to introduce yourselves if you wish, and to share how your week is going and any challenges you’re facing. Feel free as well to raise any questions you have about sobriety, AA, or this group. If you don’t want to share you can either pass, or mark yourself as listening by using the React button and selecting the red X.
Depending on the time crosstalk is OK after the speaker finishes. Please keep it helpful and non-judgemental. In other words, “crosstalk is fine, but don’t be cross when you talk.” If you don’t want crosstalk when you share, just say so and we won’t. Either way is fine.
After about 20-30 minutes, we may also feature a discussion of a tool, strategy, or resource that others have found useful in their sobriety.
